Portrait Session FAQs

What should I/we wear?

When choosing outfits avoid logos and busy prints. Coordinate everyone’s outfits by color, but avoid being too matchy-matchy. Pick several colors that you like (yellow, blue and white for instance) and have everyone wear some variation of those colors. The colors don’t have to match perfectly, let life happen. If we’re photographing just one person choose several colors and outfits that look great on that one person. Most importantly be comfortable so that you look and feel comfortable in your photographs.

Should I bring any props?

Please feel free to bring props - a picnic blanket that matches your look, or your favorite hat, a child’s favorite toy (especially if it matches or contrasts in color to the outfits), bubbles… I love sunglasses on bright days. Or coordinate with me ahead of time, I may haven something that will work just right. I also keep a gorgeous white couch and several fun chairs and stools in my Edgecomb studio.

But don’t worry about props, they aren’t at all necessary.

What about the weather?

Don’t be discouraged by cloudy weather because often cloudy conditions produce beautiful light. Even rain can make for truly memorable shooting conditions with an umbrella and lots of laughs. But it’s okay if you aren’t into the idea of a session in the rain. We can reschedule, find a place under cover or book my Edgecomb studio (perfect in all weather). I always make it work and surprises can be fun.

Where should we meet for the session?

I shoot on location or in my Edgecomb studio and we’ll agree on a place ahead of time. Natural locations with trees, shrubs, flowers, water or fields can be really inspiring. A backyard can be perfect. Even a barn or building as a backdrop can work really well. Let me know if you have a location in mind. I love being guided by your ideas.

How long will our session take?

This depends on the type of session you’ve booked. Full sessions run approximately one hour, with outfit changes as an option. I also offer half hour sessions, which can be ideal for kids. Several times a year I offer mini mini sessions at 15 minutes per session.

What if I don’t know how to pose?

I think it’s great if you don’t know how to pose. We want to capture your true self. I do want to know what you like and what you are hoping for in your photographs. Please share with me. You can even send me photos that you like ahead of time if there is a look that you love. Just show up ready to enjoy yourself and we’ll keep it relaxing, open and fun.

How many photos will I get?

With a one hour portrait session you’ll receive approximately 35 images. With a half hour session you’ll receive approximately 15 images. With a 15 minute mini session you’ll receive approximately 10 images.

When will I get my photos?

Give me two weeks. I want to be sure your edits are perfect. I’ll send you print resolution, downloadable images via an online gallery.

Do you offer prints and albums?

Many people that I work with opt to build their own albums on their own timeline. There are several printing companies I'm happy to recommend and will gladly work with you for an additional fee if you'd like design support. Either way I will give you a print release with your final images, so you are free to print them wherever and whenever you would like.

Can we post your photos to social media?

Yes! And PLEASE tag me! This is so important to my work and I so appreciate your support this way. You are more than welcome to post the photographs whenever and wherever but please don’t edit them with filters, etc. as I’ve spent hours editing already. Thanks!
